The Irony Of The Sikrikim's Anti-Violence Campaign

I found tremendous irony in an event that happened this past Thursday.

As a result of the increased violence in Mea Shearim between various groups in a power struggle, the Eida put out a generic condemnation against violence. They avoided taking sides, and upsetting anybody, and kept the message generic - condemning all violence.

Because the incident that spurred the Eida to condemn violence was specifically a vilent attack on one of the sikrikim/thugs, the group decided to assume the condemnation was for violence specifically against them, rather than including their violence as well.

So a group of these thugs in Bet Shemesh were hanging the Eida's latest pashkevil calling for no violence. They were hanging the signs all over, and made sure to also paste some of the signs in the neighborhood of Gerrer Hassidim. One fellow tried to stop them from hanging the signs in the area, and the thugs jumped him and beat him up. He got away and needed medical attention, including a visit to the hospital.

The irony of them beating up on somebody while hanging up signs condemning violence is just too great....

Supposedly the Eida now feels obligated to condemn this specific attack, as if anybody involved actually cares what they think...
