playing chicken
tensions are getting high as the government members are flexing their muscles and playing chicken.
Minister Ben Gvir demanded a harsh response, not the weak response provided, to the rockets from Gaza. When he was ignored he said his party will not participate in any votes in Knesset until further notice. That doesnt kill the government but does make the numbers very tight.
PM Netanyahu and others in the Likud have responded to Ben Gvir saying he is welcome to leave the government if he cant handle it. The security decisions are made by Netanyahu and the defense Minister and that does not include his involvement, Ben Gvir should basically stick to his job and not mix in where he has no involvement.
Ben Gvir responded with repeating his demands for a harsh response and saying Netanyahu is welcome to fire him and kick them out of the government.
It is getting interesting. I think Ben Gvir miscalculated and should have dropped out of the government earlier when he could legitimately have gone to the electorate in a campaign blaming Netanyahu but now he has been there long enough without doing anything significant and not blaming Netanyahu for it that the people will have a hard time buying it. This is likely why polls show him barely passing the electoral threshold should elections happen today. Now if they go to elections, this excuse wont pass muster. When he had the strong hand it would have, now it seems just like an excuse.
Anyway, we will soon see who blinks first. My money is on Ben Gvir backing down. He does not have much of a choice.
