Ha! I've always thought similarly. I've been thinking about aliyah over the past year, and decided that if we do make aliyah, we will take a normal flight, enter on a tourist visa, and then make our way to misrad ha-klita once we've had a chance to sleep off our jet lag.
you dont have to come on a group flight. you can come on a regular flight, paid for by NBN, and not have a ceremony. They only do the ceremonies on the flights with lots of olim concentrated together. plenty of people make aliyah throughout the year and they come without group flights and ceremonies.
I have been to one ceremony, and I have watched a couple live online, and I dont understand how they can hold these people who have just packed and flown and turned their lives upside down, for so much time in a ceremony with so many speeches. It must be the adrenaline.
No offense to those who love to sing and dance and hear speeches after a 12 hour flight, but I'm so glad we took a regular flight.
