Rabbanut Warning regarding Ordering From Burger Ranch By Phone

One of the companies I worked for, many years ago, would allow us to order dinner from restaurants in situations in which we had to stay late at work. I remember, at the time, that we on occasion ordered dinner from Burger Ranch, but had a problem. We ordered from burger Ranch because they had a mehadrin branch not too far away. We called the number on the advertisement published by the mehadrin branch, and we would place our order. We discovered that the food that came was not mehadrin.

We called back the number and explained the problem. What happened was that the number was not the direct number for the specific mehadrin branch, but was a general dispatch center - they would take orders, country-wide, and would have it delivered from whatever branch was nearest to the address of the delivery. Even though we had wanted from the mehadrin branch, we got our food delivered from a different branch.

They told us that we would have to specify that we wanted from the mehadrin branch in order to receive mehadrin food. We did it another time in the future, and we actually got the mehadrin food from the mehadrin branch.

I dont know if just requesting food from a specific branch was a guarantee that you would get it from that branch, or if perhaps it just raised the percentages of your chances of success. Either way, it seems that 12 years later this is still a problem.

The Rabbanut, in it's latest newsletter, has warned the public from ordering via telephone from Burger Ranch. They have found that people are ordering, specifically saying they want from a kosher or even mehadrin branch, but at times they receive food even from branches that are not even kosher!

The Rabbanut recommends not ordering via the phone, but only by actually going to the branch from which you want the food. And, if you must order by phone, verify that you  have received what you requested - check the receipt and delivery slip and make sure it is from the correct branch.

  1. Pizza hut has the exact same problem.

Thankfully, the lady on the phone was nice enough to explain to me that no matter how much extra I pay, they can't get the delivery to come from the Mehadrin Pizza hut.

  2. can you get the phone number directly to the branch you want to order from and call that?

  3. its been done, but its not easy. they dont advertise the individual shop numbers. Back in the day i found that they were a bit more willing to give out the mehadrin store number, because they understood that there was only one option for people who wanted mehadrin. I dont know what the policy is today.
