  1. Nothing surprising about this.

    My understanding is that unlike Poland, where the tradition was to build large elaborate Batei Knesset, in Yemen, Batei Knesset were more intimate family orientated structures, and each family or clan would have its own small shteble with 20 people or less (although they probably didn't call it with a Yiddish name). You see these small Batei Knesset in other Yeminite areas such as Rosh Ayin.
