Shmitta: Heter Mechira: bury it
I just heard this psak in the name of "the Rav". I suspect "the Rav" is Rabbi perlstein, based on who told it over, but I am not sure. I will try to find out.
They received some cans of corn that were labeled as being "Hetter Mechira" produce. Not knowing what to do with it, they went to "the Rav" to ask for a psak. He told them it is assur to eat, so they have to dig a hole in the ground, and pour out the contents of the cans into the hole, burying it.
I never heard that solution before.

That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. I don't know where this story happened, but wherever it was, I'm sure it wasn't more than a 30 minute walk to where people cannot afford food.
ReplyDeleteprobably he holds that the heter mechira is bunk, like most poskim nowadays, and therefore there is an issur sfichin on the product, so he cant just walk 30 mins and give it to a poor person
ReplyDeleteanon- the fact that he doesn't hold of the heter mechira in no way means that he can't give it to a poor person, who may certainly rely on those who do (no matter what your opinion of that shitta is).
ReplyDeletehave you ever heard of d'mai?
Hear Oh Israel-
ReplyDeleteDrop off all fresh, unwanted, Heter Mechira produce at Dolev 31b second floor.
Ari Enkin
Ari - what would the mora d'asra say about that?
ReplyDeleteNote to readers-
ReplyDeleteRabbi Perlstein is not the Mara D'asra.
I am the real Mara D'asra.
-The Real Mara D'asra
p.s. Rabbi Perlstein is the Mara D'asra of a few zombies who live on Nachal Revivim, most of whom have no formal or wholesome Jewish education.
Whoever the "Rav" was, it certainly was not Rav Shlomo Zalman Orbach, who allows consumption of Heter Mechira products. (Also, people have stopped asking him questions the past few years.)
ReplyDeleteThe great and Haredi Hazon Ish also allowed consumption of HM products.
