Quote of the Day

When Lieberman sad "Live and Let Live", it has to be two-way. For example, Hendel should not have mixed in to our lives regarding the issue of the kosher phones (koma ksheira)...

-- Yitzchak Goldknopf, Knesset candidate and head of Agudat Yisrael faction of UTJ

I always think it is a problem for Haredim to talk about "live and let live" to demand independence and freedom to be different in whatever way. The Haredi community believes in anything but live and let live. Live and let live should be a two way street, but when the Haredim mix in to so much of everyone else's lives, they can't legitimately claim live and let live.

  1. No one was keeping anyone from getting a kosher phone, and it's a lie to say otherwise.

  2. Haredim have a long-standing practice of using other people's standards, which they would never use themselves, to their advantage.

  3. There is an inherent problem with compromise amongst religiously driven people who believe their way of worshiping God is the only or even just best way. Because God is almighty and infinite, and transgression of his ways, in any way, is therefore a transgression against an infinite God, even the slightest compromise is impossible. Compromise with the outside world and general public? : Human-defined considerations are just non-starters. Strife amongst religious streams and sects are even more heated because there each side thinks they have God on their side.
Religious zealotry works. And it is resented. Inside and outside the system.

  4. We agree on this. Hypocritical and unorthodox.Always have a problem with essentially postmodern pluralist "Live and Let Live"
