Slonim come, Slonim go
The Slonimer community has announced that if the Supreme Court forces them to break the barriers in Emannuel and go to school with the Sefardim (in their words the less religious girls), they will likely leave Emannuel en masse.
Good luck to them. Emannuel turned out to be one of the worst real estate investments in the country, as no desire to live there was ever marketed properly, and many of those that did buy there, left over the years with only a small community remaining, and then the group of about 150 Slonim families joined later.
If they all decide to suddenly move, to whom exactly are they going to sell their apartments in order to be able to buy new places in Kiryat Gat (where they would likely move to)? 150 or so apartments going on the market in Emannuel at the same time? That's a joke! They won't sell, and the already low prices will be driven further down.
So they will probably not be able to afford, based on their sale prices (if they can even sell within a reasonable time frame), buying new places in a real city, even a low socio-econimic city with cheaper real estate.
So if they move forward with their plan, look for a large fundraising campaign where people go door to door to help them buy apartments...

buy apartments. you spelled it wrong :)
ReplyDeletethanks
ReplyDeleteWell, maybe it would be a good solution for some of the people expelled from Gush Katif, who are STILL waiting for a solution for themselves and who want to live in a group while their compensation money has been running out. Emmanuel isn't that terrible a place and for people who could make Gaza more than livable, maybe not much of a challenge.
ReplyDeletemaybe if they leave the prices will go up
ReplyDeletemaybe if they open a chareidi run ashkenazi-only mikve in Emanual then maybe all the wackos and psychos (and perverts) will leave RBS
