interesting developments in hafganot

The on again-off again hafganot against the digging of ancient graves in Yafo/Jaffa should get interesting today.

The Asra Kadisha has acquired hundreds of protective helmets in preparation for the upcoming round of hafganot. they have done so because of the increased level of brutality employed by the police trying to clear them. That seems to indicate that instead of backing down, they plan on ramping up the hafganot and are preparing for even more violence.

But even more interesting is that today a group has planned to take the hafgana to Mt. Herzl in Jerusalem. They will go there with picks and shovels and threaten to dig up the graves of the state's founders, including Herzl's graves and move them reinter them elsewhere. If it can be done in Yafo, it can be done in Har Herzl, they say.

That protest should be interesting.

  1. They're going to dig up graves on Har Herzl to prove - what? that their morals are exclusively political???

  2. No, to show that one kever Yisrael is as important as another. I don't agree with the idea, but I think it's a good tit for tat.

  3. I dont think they are going to actually dig up any graves. They are going to make a shocking statement in order to make a point.

  4. they have a point here.

why is X's grave more desrvant of respect than Y's?

it will be hard to criticize them w/o looking hypocritical.

  6. garfield - people are talking about digging up graves and destroying cemeteries. There is a big difference in appearance (not halacha, but most of the world does not go according to halacha) between digging up graves in a proper cemetery and between digging up ancient bones buried in a field...

  7. Garfield, that's absurd! There is a reason the remains in Jaffa are being moved, one may not agree with the reason, but there's a reason. You can't even begin to compare that with going into a Jewish cemetery and digging up graves for no reason whatsoever.

This will simply make the Chareidim who do this look even more fanatic than they already do.

  8. the only hypocrites would be those upset about digging up any graves - including ancient ones which are possibly non-Jewish - digging up graves of known Jews.

do these charedi-kitzoni-politicai folks never get any schooling? basic math, simple mishnayos, something would give them a sense of logic.....

  13. if they would only use their talents and enthusiasm for discovering the cure for cancer or something of actual value...such a waste.

while regular law abiding folks are out working for a living, these types are sitting around all day dreaming of anarchy.

they are in for a rude awakening...
