Quote of the Day

Abu Mazen lives and dies by our sword. Once we leave Judea and Samaria, he is finished. In effect, during these past months, there haven’t been negotiations with the Palestinians, but with the Americans. The only thing that can ‘save’ us is for John Kerry to win his Nobel Prize and leave us alone.

-- Minister of Defense Moshe Yaalon

It seems the greatest insult we Israelis are able to throw is that someone is motivated by a Nobel Peace Prize. We hear it used every time someone gets involved in trying to move the peace process forward.. Maybe he just wants to help make peace? We can disagree on the methods employed without insinuating that there are ulterior motives..

  1. Rafi, it's a great insult to Rabin, Peres, and Obama and the Nobel committee all wrapped in one. it's true and many rabbis sermons are about substance rather than the superficial.

Remember, Obama won the Nobel so early in his first term not because of any one single achievement, but rather specifically for the anticipation of ''yes we can' 'change'.

Moving the peace process forward is clearly only in the court of the Arabs and Palestinians. No amount of land will change anything. If they want peace, they have to prepare for peace first internally. And they don't. There is absolutely not even one effort at encouraging normalization between the PA Arabs and Israelis. Peace starts with 'normalization' and without that N word, there is no peace.

In fact, the negotiations are really only with the Americans.
Barak offered something - no good enough. Barak leaves the arena.
along comes Olmert. The US says to him, " Barak put this on the table, what else can you offer?" Olmert leaves the arena.
along comes Tzipi Livni (and Netanyahu) The US says to her, " Barak and Olmert put this on the table, what else can you offer?"

Meanwhile, the PA Arabs do not budge one millimeter from their demands. That is not a peace process.

If Kerry really wanted peace, than the US administration would not have abandoned the Saudis (with regard to Iran), but rather worked with them to change the attitude in the Arab world vis a vis Israel. Has v'shalom, if there would be some mass withdrawal, it would be the Saudi billions that could finance the peace and relocation of Jews across the green line. Obama - baruch Hashem! - screwed up that option.
