Woman evicted from Har Habayit for being dressed immodestly (video)
A religious woman was tossed from Har Habayit yesterday, for being dressed immodestly. It was a Waqf agent who called her on being immodest and insisted she be thrown out. The Israeli policeman followed orders - from the Waqf guy - and evicted her from the Mount. When confronted, the police officer said they don't decide the rules, and even though she seems modest to him, it is not his call.
You can see for yourself how she is dressed - just like any other religious young woman, though I think there is something inherently disturbing with the way the camera shows us how she is dressed, but it is doing so to make a point showing that she is not immodest and the Waqf are given too much control..
If it had been a haredi fellow who had called her immodest and thrown her out of a neighborhood or a shul because of it, the entire country would be up in arms. The country should be up in arms over this too. The Waqf should not have this power to indiscriminately decide who can and who cannot be on Har Habayit. Even if certain rules must be followed, to avoid riots, this seems whimsical.

3. NOW I will say that her dress is most certainly too tight. The fact that this is common does not make it right.
1. It is not for me to say what is modest and what is not. She is dressed according to the rules, and at least in accordance with common dress. she is at least no less modest than the other average woman around, and this is not an acceptable reason for her to be thrown off the Mount. If she was wearing a halter top, I could understand it. but she isnt.
Delete2. why shouldnt she go to Har Habayit? I dont know if she wentto the mikva, just like I dont know if the men I go up with or other who go up went, but I assume they did. Whats the problem? if she followed the rules of tahara, whats wrong?
3. right or wrong about this is in the eyes of the beholder. I dont personally care. she was not too immodest for the Har. As said above - if she was wearing a halter top, that would be something else.
One can see how tight her skirt is around her tuchus. There is an option for this being right?
ReplyDeleteWhy we should find combinoth for women to go to the miqwah before they are married. Why should they go on Har HaBayith? It is bad enough that the English-speaking Livtvish community has adopted crazy ideas about egalitarianism (out of powerlessness? emotional castration of the rabbis? confusion over what are Torah sensibilities vs. Western progressive/galuth sensibilities?). I will do my best to prevent this cancer from spreading to other communities.
why shouldnt a woman go to har habayit? please explain. Har Habayit and the Bet Hamikdash were not just for men, so I do not understand your point.
DeleteRafi, it is obvious she was dressed immodest. Her skirt was too tight and too short. The Har Habayit is a very holy site and her way of dress was very inappropriate and disrespectful to Hashem. Hashem sent her a message through a shliach who happened to be an Arab.

ReplyDelete1. I refuse to stand idly by, when feminism has successfully sneaked into M/O AND English-speaking Livish communities. This is a goyshe concept, not an authentically Jewish one.
2. Judaism is not about doing whateva' we want, or pretending that Rav Eliashiv (take your pick of rabbis) says what we want. It is about doing what HaShem wants. Although I do not claim to know the details of this like some Gedolim do, I will hazard a guess that He does not want us to be able to discern various female anatomy, we should only know about from biology or anthropology textbooks. 'Nuff said.

whether you think she was dressed inappropriately or not, her mode of dress is a far cry from being similar to that of a "ho".. I dont know what the "ho"s from your town dress like, but the hos I've seen dont dress like she did. not even close.

The woman wanted to go up to Har Habayit (notwithstanding the many Rabbi's that forbids it) and the Wakf has no right to tell her that she cannot!
Just like you have no right to tell her how to dress (notwithstanding your holier-than-thou attitude)!
In any case, your obsession with her "halter tops", her going to the "miqwa" (what's with the weird spelling?) , her "tuchus", her "tight skirt", her "dressing like a ho" and your "discernig her female anatomy" is bordering on perversion.

Unfortunately you are right, in that she is a far cry,...from the inappropriateness of English speaking Litvaks, like the one I saw just now with the split up the back of her TIGHT skirt more than a couple of inches above her knees, thinking that it was OK because was wearing stockings (eyes rolling).
