Mets cannot force Jews to keep Shabbos

Remember the case of the New York Mets trying to close down the Kosher Sports vendor from operating on Saturday, claiming they cannot be kosher if they work on shabbos, while the vendor claimed they serve non-Jewish customers as well...

A judge, and a Jewish one to boot (if his name, Jack Weinstein, is any indication), ruled that the Mets cannot stop the vendor from operating on shabbos.
Leave it it to the macher upstairs.

A federal judge has ordered the Mets to stop banning a kosher food company from selling snacks at CitiField during the Sabbath.

"I cannot get involved in (a dispute) over rabbinical law," Brooklyn Judge Jack Weinstein said with a smile during a hearing Friday.

The suit has not been resolved. But Weinstein, who seemed bemused to be acting as Solomon in a dispute over Hebrew dietary laws, ordered the Mets to back off while the case is pending.
