Proposed Law: banning Haredim from the government coalition

MK Yaakov Litzman (UTJ) has decided to submit a new law proposal to amend the current discrimination  law. The amendment would make it illegal to ban a group of people from joining the government coalition just because they are haredim.

Someone who breaks this law, according to the proposal, would be punished with up to 10 years in prison, along with the invalidation of any action that was achieved as a result of the transgression.

Litzman explained in his proposal that in this last government coalition that was recently formed, a group chose to ban the representatives of a significant group of the population from joining the government, only because they are haredim. This expression was not rejected and the government was eventually formed on that basis.

Litzman further explains, there is no place for such banning of haredim in a thoughtful society that values and respects others as they are despite the differences between them. This phenomenon must be uprooted from its roots.

Litzman agrees that whether the haredi representatives are in or out of the government is a political issue and can conclude at different times either way, but banning them just because they are haredim with peyos and beards, as was explicitly stated, is unacceptable.

  2. What a moron. And a hypocrite, too, talking about "the importance of a thoughtful society that values and respects others as they are despite the differences between them"! Yeah, charedim really value and respect non-charedim!

  3. The racism in the Bennet-L alliance was disgusting and seeing as how the media 'watchdog of democracy' pushed it on, there is no other alternative but to explicitly spell it out in a law.

    1. perhaps along with this proposed law, there should also be a law mandating that any party which disqualifies women from their list (in realistic positions) be disqualified from running.

  4. What was the last time an Arab Party included in a coalition? Never. Too often laws are made passed to maintain political power instead of being based on sound principles. UTJ is working hard to prove they don't deserve to be in the coalition.

  5. > in a thoughtful society that values and respects others as they are despite the differences between them

Perhaps if Chareidi society didn't exemplify the exact opposite of this...

  6. There's an irony which seems to be lost on MK Litzman. The proposed a law is purported to be anti-discriminatory, but it is discriminatory itself. It only addresses discrimination against one group, not others. Conspiring to exclude a different group (chilonim, Arabs, the "Peace Camp", dog trainers, etc.) would be legal under the proposed law. Somehow he's OK with that kind of discrimination.

    1. either it is as you say that litzman doesn't see a thing except for when people discriminate against his group or the whole thing is a joke and not meant to be taken seriously.

  7. The Charedi parties are acting like spoiled little kids. This is what my 4 year old son does when he is upset about something. He has a tantrum about every thing that happens.

  8. There was no ban in the latest case. A coalition was formed leaving out certain parties, who have no valid claim to be in every coalition! The only cure is to mend some fences, not to always be on the attack.

  9. I will NEVER forgive and NEVER forget United "Tora" Judiasm for their part in the Gush Katif expulsion/ethnic cleansing. GOt 10,000 Jews expelled from their houses, widows had to sit shiva again, major grave desecration and hilul shabbat in exchange for ... 290 million shekels ... for UTJ Yeshivot.
They were happy when police were sent to expel people from their houses and ruin their lives .. and now they CRY about budget cuts.
