Quote of the Day

If they don't accept the Ministry of Health's proposals today, we will soon be forced to decide on a full lockdown..

-- Minister of Health Yuli Edelstein

PM Neantayhu said similarly in the government meeting, shortly after, saying "we are a step away from full lockdown"

this has really gotten out of control. I am pretty sure that even if the ministers accept the MoH proposals today in full with no reservations and debate that within a few days they'll be moving to lockdown. It seems to be too late to easily get control over the situation by simply adjusting the numbers of how many people are allowed in what venue

  1. The virus is spreading rapidly; however, there seems to be a low number of deaths and hospitalizations. I don't have the numbers in front of me. But Kikar is reporting 332 deaths, and I think it was around 260 at the end of April, averaging 1 death a day. It is even possible that the virus mutated to a more infectious but less deadly form. The focus should not be on the number of positive cases, but on the number of hospitalizations and deaths. No one wants to die, and every death is a tragedy, but a lockdown will put Israel in danger. Less money will mean less money spent on security and defense, on roads, infrastructure, and on the general healthcare system. Won't that also lead to a loss of life? A "great depression" in Israel will lead to loss of life in many ways. We need to think long term, and I think a lockdown will cause a great danger to Israel. Israel survived real wars but a "great depression" could ruin the country.

  2. Bibi and Edelstein have said that the number of serious cases has been spiking as well. They claim that in the past week or so, it is doubling itself every day (or something like that) and if it gets out of control it will soon be in the hundreds daily and be deadly in big numbers.
