to be fair, it is probably less connected to rational thought and decisions and more connected to creating a party like atmosphere and playing on people's FOMO.
I'm not sure why the pikuach nefesh argument didn't work but the chulent incentive might. I am not aware of a mitzvah d'oraita to eat chulent.
