disposables havent been trashed after all
Mazel tov!
Finance Minister Betzalel Smotritch has now officially cancelled the tax on disposable plates and utensils. It has gone into effect.
Now we have to see if the stores drop the prices back to down to pre-tax prices or if they will continue to gouge the public (it was shown that they increased the prices by far more than the tax itself) at some level.
Minister of Environment Protection Idit Silman has said she is going to look for alternative ways to discourage and minimize use of disposables. She opposed the cancellation of the tax saying it proved itself efficient as it drastically decreased the use of disposables and the tax should not be cancelled until an alternative option is discovered. Other countries are even banning them outright.
Enjoy, and especially enjoy your soft drinks in plastic cups in just a few weeks when the soft drink tax cut goes into effect.
