Quote Of The Day
Quote Of The Day
There is no need to be frummer than Bais Yaakov.
--- Rav Ahron Leib Shteinman
Rav Shteinman said this, reportedly, in response to a group of parents in Jerusalem who decided that the Bais Yaakov school was spiritually not good enough for their daughters. they worked to establish a private school that would be even more exclusive with the teachers and students hand-selected. They then went to Rav Shteinman to receive his approval and bracha. To their surprise, after initially showing interest and then hearing the details, Rav Shteinman told them to scrap the idea.
Rav Shteinman said "there is no need to be more frum than Bais Yaakov. The Bais Yaakov schools are excellent, and there are a number of reasons why setting up this new school is a bad idea. Parents have to realize that when children grow up disconnected from their friends, it can be destructive for the rest of the child's life." (source: Kikar)

You are missing the crucial word "not" in the first sentence
ReplyDeleteI dont see where it is missing. please be more specific.
ReplyDeleteBetcha they open it anyway.
ReplyDeleteThey'll open it anyways.
ReplyDeleteThe same thing happened in Toronto. The main Bais Yaakov made students sign a contract that there would be no TV in their homes. But some parents were worried that while no Bais Yaakov student herself would have a TV she might be friends with a non-Bais Yaakov girl that did and this indirect tumah might somehow affect their children. So they went and started their own school to avoid such a yeridah despite pleas from major rabbonim not to split the community.
People only listen to "gadolim" when those "gadolim" say what they want to hear.
I would venture a guess that these are hardcore Litvish who want a Bais Yaakov of their own to separate their girls from the Sephardim, as the Chasidim have successfully done in large population areas (it didn't go over so well in Emanuel)
ReplyDeleteRafi - the first sentence should read "was spiritually NOT good enough". You left out the word not.
ReplyDeletethanks. got it
