Drive on green only
In Israel you are only allowed to drive through an intersection with a traffic light when the light is green. Even though there is a yellow (or some call it orange) light, that technuically has the status of red. If you drive through the intersection when the light already turned to yellow, it is as if you went through a red light and can get a ticket.
Until now this was not enforced, and the police allowed the yellow light to be treated as simply a warning that it is about to turn red. Driving through the yellow did not earn you a ticket or points ony our license or anything like that..
The police recently announced that as of 01/01/2023 (today), they would start enforcing this law and the yellow light will be treated like a red. Most of the enforcement will be via electronic means (cameras and the like). The reason for the change in policy is due to road safety, with pedestrians (and other drivers) regularly being put at risk because of drivers speeding to make the yellow light before it turns red.
That goes into effect today, and it has been reiterated in the news that this will now be enforced.
Drive safely

If yellow is going to be treated the same as red, they should just get rid of it. It has no function.
ReplyDeleteLights also go yellow before they turn green.
ReplyDeletetrue, but strangely enough, that doesn't happen by every light
Deletenever figured out why some do that and some don't
in any case, that yellow also seems pointless...
