Show Me The New Bus Lines!
I am very impressed with the way some of our representatives in City Hall work. 6 weeks ago a press release was released by the councilman in charge of transportation issues, announcing the finalization of plans for some new bus routes, including a new line to Jerusalem straight from RBS along with a new bus line to Tel Aviv that would be direct via Highway 1 and avoid the moshavim. In the press release, the specific councilman tooted his own horn saying that he has already been dubbed the "Postal Minister because of his success in bringing a new post office branch to RBS, and now some are dubbing him the Minister of Transportation because of his success in establishing these new routes.
It seems he spoke too early. While I had heard there were some technical delays, we are now 6 weeks later and still no new bus routes are operating, though he said they were approved and ready to begin in the very near future (the 412 was said to be starting immediately, and the 419 was going to be in the near future).
Perhaps city councilmen should be more diligent about praising themselves only after their successes and not preempt the successes with premature announcements.
This comes to head because soon the train to Tel Aviv will be taking another week off for rail-works. Those who travel regularly to tel Aviv are in for another nightmare of a week, due to inadequate alternative methods of transportation in that direction.

Couldn't agree more. I imagine it's all been held up, because the chareidim want them to be mehadrin, although I'm sure the Tel Aviv line need not be - even from their viewpoint.
ReplyDeleteYou know, the situation at the train station is terrible. The big car park where they are supposed to be building the kanyon, and where the circus was lies empty, whilst people park their cars under trees and on sidewalks. It's terrible.
So I say to those in charge of this city "Nu, nu, nu, where are the buses? Where is the car park?".
I'm disgusted about the whole business.
Doesn't the nickname "Postal Minister" seem to conjure up the image of a city councilman who goes into his office and shoots the place up?
ReplyDeleteyoni - now that you mention it, it does.. :-)
ReplyDeleteMeir - initially the delay was blamed on Superbus protesting the division of the bus routes. Maybe that is still a problem or maybe there are new problems that have cropped up. But if all the issues were not yet worked out, why was the councilman tooting his horn and making announcements how successful he is?
What was there to brag about - these bus routes were announced to be in the works even before the municipal elections! There was a Superbus vs. Egged lawsuit that contributed to the delay, but I doubt any councilman helped settle that.
ReplyDeleteSo the councilman can read a piece of paper announcing the new route - wow. Let's see him resolve teh conflict between the police and Superbus so that the existing buses stop at BIG again, instead of making the travelers walk 2 blocks to the new stop.
Yeah, thanks to the dedicated work of the "postal minister" we no longer have to shlep to Bet to wait in long lines for incompetent service.
ReplyDeleteWe can now do it right in Aleph!
:-/
Mikeage - I recently got a first and second notice of a package delivered to my mailbox on the same day, both for the same package!
ReplyDeleteThe postal and transportation minister is tooting his horn because he plans to be the next mayor of Bet Shemesh.
ReplyDeleteWith demographics the way they are and the fact that he is "Gimmel" he'll have a pretty good shot.
And if he is behind in the polls they'll roll out Rav Shteinman or another Rabbinic "centerfold" to condemn to hell whomever doesn't vote for him.
My favorite was after they lost a package of mine, they told me that I had to understand "they have a lot of packages here [sic]".
ReplyDelete~sigh~
