The shocking assault on Rav Shteinman

I am still shocked that somebody could go to Rav Shteinman's house and physically assault him. Forget for a moment that he is the gadol hador, or one of them at least. How could anyone physically assault any 99 year old man who is already frail and sickly, no matter what he said? And then add to that his stature. How did we get to this?

  1. When the Haredi leadership do serious cheshbon nefesh about their behaviour and leadership during the elections, you will have an answer why Rav Shteinman deserved to go through this for himself or because of his followers. As much as I don't care for Bennet and his Bayit Yehudi (in general), the Freudian slips of Shas leadership and totally not condoning verbal and physical violence on Rav Dahan (no matter how much criticism), there is no justification for the leadership, or lack of leadership from the Haredi leaders. I'm not saying 'magia lo', but Hashem does not do a bizui like this for nothing.

  2. I'm shocked that you are shocked. Remember the violence in Ponovezh? When you have a society that is so hysterical and uses such violent language ("People who vote X are chayyav skilah"), are these results surprising?

  3. How did we get here? Perhaps you should read the post below this one. It reminds me of the story where the Cohen pulls the knife out of his son (who had been stabbed in the race to get a Kavod in the Beit HaMikdash) and said not to worry he pulled it out before it became tameih. Self Righteousness leads to intolerance and hatred to those who disagree with us and permission to use any means necessary to enforce the 'correct' point of view.

  4. Reminds me of the story when the man on the train slapped a stranger who was downplaying the greatness of the Chafetz Chaim. Maybe Rabbanim shouldn't be entering politics, because it's never clean.
