Daf Yomi saves lives!
Mishpacha reported a story this past week about how Daf Yomi saves lives.
Meoros Daf Yomi is an organization that promotes the study of daf yomi. They form and support daf yomi shiurim all over Israel, along with publications that they put out.
A Rabbi affiliated with Meoros was on his way to giving his daily shiur. He decided to stop at a lottery stand to ask for an explanation of a certain type of lottery. He did this because the topic of that days shiur was to be "Asmachta Lo Kanya" - an insincere commitment does not effect a transaction, and the particular lottery game was a very good example of the concept.
So the Rabbi stopped at the Lotto stand to clarify how the game works to see if it qualifies for the concept of "Asmachta". He knocked on the stand window to get the attention of the clerk. The clerk did not respond. He noticed the clerk was not moving at all and seemed to have collapsed inside the stand. He right away called for medical help and MDA came and resuscitated him.
So Daf Yomi saves lives!

Nice story!
ReplyDeleteACTUALLY, I THINK IT'S GOD WHO SAVES LIVES - AND TAKES THEM TOO. SEE, IT IS GOD WHO SAID, OK, YOU DESERVE THE ZECHUS OF SAVING A LIFE TODAY SO GO TO THAT LOTTERY STAND AND CHECK IT OUT. You want to darshan about it, kol hakavod. But I sent you there.
ReplyDeletesee, otherwise, you could relate the story how daf yomi tears families apart. e.g., a man decides that hes going to commit to a dy shiur everyday. now he already works 10-14 hours a day ands doesn't see much of his family. so now his wife says, what about us, what about me, what about the kids? what about you? you sleep thru the shiur anyway. he replies, my rov says learning is more important. so you see, dy can destroy a family too.
i know you meant to write just a cute story, but I hate those types as they mislead people. "kshem shemivarchim al ha'tov, kain mevarchim al ha'rah"
yaak - don't come over and yell at me now!
A little innocent footwork for one shiur generated material for a couple more. Odd how life works out sometimes.
ReplyDeleteShaya, I don't have to come over to yell at you. I can do so right here! :-)
ReplyDeleteHKB"H, Who put the idea of Daf Yomi into R' Meir Shapiro's head, and planned that the sugya of Asmachta Lo Kanya would come up b'davka on that day, also planned that a person at the store that sells lottery tickets should collapse, and be saved because of that sugya.
A classic case of Refu'ah Kodem LeMaka.
Just as Moshe Rabbeinu needs Hakarat Hatov to the water and sand, which saved him, the man at the lottery store should have Hakarat Hatov to Daf Yomi.
