local RBS Tzedaka: be respectful in the comments
For the series of posts on local Tzedaka organizations, I demand that comments be respectful (they should always be respectful even on other posts, but this topic tends to hit nerves that bring out not such nice things in people) and lashon ha'ra free.
I normally do not touch comments that are posted - I have never deleted a comment by a reader (except for once due to profanity), but if this gets out of hand I will reserve the right to delete any offensive comments about either organization.

I am a member of Rav Chaim's shul and although I support Lema'an Achai I have also supported Kupa Shel Tzedaka.
ReplyDeleteIt is very sad that we must speak in "defence" of a Rav or an organization. People who are committed to Torah, Tzedaka and Chesed should need no defence.
I must say however that the tone of some of the Lema'an Achai supporters on this post are not in the "ruach haTorah" that they should.
I have not once heard a negative word against Kupa or their leaders from Lema'an Achai. Their message has always been positive. They speak of their strengths and not the perceived weakness of other organizations.
let's follow the lead of Lema'an Achai and show our support in a positive light through donations, volunteering and praise. If we choose to show our displeasure with other organizations let's do it through stronger support of Lema'an Achai, not bashing and name calling.
Let's be civil here!
Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI wish this didn't have to be said.
Why turn the tables unreasonably? The only point LeMaan Achai supporters have made is that Kuppah Shel Tzeddakah should cease and desist from maligning LeMaan Achai and Rav Soloveichik. This is not lashon hara. This is a necessary step to the Kuppah's cleaning house
ReplyDeleteThrough his moral courage Rav Soloveichik has established himself as leader of our great community. And if this leader supports speaks out for us to support LeMaan Achai then so we must do!
ReplyDeleteWhy should the kuppah clean house? Aside from a couple of comments, no one seems to indicate that they might not give or might decrease their giving.
ReplyDeleteThis seems to be their reading of the local market and so far they seem to be correct.

What a sad commentary. I guess this will just inspire them and other organizations to use tactics like this for their own benefit. It is a shame that the seemingly intelligent people of this community don't realize the slippery slope that they are nearing.
Does this mean that if it looks more "authentic" it must be more "kosher"?
I know David Morris personally and have heard Rav Leventhal speak numerous times. They are yirei shomayim and devoted to the klal.
pinchas - turn teh tables unreasonably? it is unreasonable to ask people to be civil, just because they perceive others are not civil to them (whether it is true or not)?
ReplyDeleteYou sound like my 5 year old kid - he started it. I tell my kids that even if he hits you, don't hit him back. If he calls you a name, don't call him names. Of course there it usually does not work either...
The only people so far on this site who have not been civil have been Lmaan Achai supporters (not all Lmaan Achai supporters, but a few).
I am not obligated to allow you to be uncivil to people on my site just because on the street someone was uncivil to you. If people will not be civil, I will shut down the series, or at least the comments.
I hope people will be civil, offer their criticism, ask their questions and hopefully we can get answers and clarity into both organizations.
