solving the shidduch demands crisis
Last night a group of 50 Roshei Yeshiva got together for a conference to support the initiatives to stop abusing parents regarding shidduchim and "forcing" them to dish out astronomical amounts of money that they do not have in order to get [what they consider] a good shidduch.
I would almost say that this kennes was in response to my recent blog post about the Bais Yaakov girls who went to the gedolim asking what to do, but I am sure it was not.
So these 50 Roshei Yeshiva and a few gedolim (Rav Shteinman, Rav Finkel, Rav Edelshtein and Rav Lefkowitz and perhaps others) got together and discussed the problem of a community that normally just gets by, if at all, on the most basic of expenses, yet come marriage time and the bochurim make astronomical demands of which it is not possible to be met.
According to the Bechadrei report, no official statement was made supporting a specific initiative or making a takana to rectify the situation, because no decision was arrived at. It was decided that the situation would be further discussed and analyzed and experts would be consulted and they would work on finding ways to solve the housing crisis to make cheaper apartments...
Have you heard the story about the village of Chelm that had a lot of accidents on the bridge, so they built a hospital under the bridge?

Hold it - 50 people in a room and no decision was reached? I'm shocked, SHOCKED!!!
ReplyDeleteThe biggest problem of the girls not getting married is that they don't produce children. I have a solution for that problem! The gedolim in each community should take it upon themselves to each marry one or two of these girls and impregnate them such that they produce children. Of course they first have to reverse a certain takana, but to solve such a big problem, that should be easy. After these gedolim setting such a great example, the bochurim will begin to behave properly and everyone will get married and live happily ever after.
ReplyDelete:-)
Thank you for the belly laugh, about the hosp in Chelm!
ReplyDeleteIt's so hot here in NY that people are fying eggs outside on anything flat! That is, if they can stay outside! Imagine 10 days in a row of searing heat. The east coast is being fried!
