Proposed Law: no more telephone spam, even for charity or politics

sick of telephone spam? all those organizations calling you up, often at the most inconvenient time possible (though is there ever a convenient time?), asking for donations with sob stories...

you could sue and maybe you'll even make a bit of money off it....

but if you are not going to do that, you basically just have to suffer through all the calls. say yes or say no, your choice, but they will continue calling.

According to Ladaat, currently the law does not all for-profit businesses to make such calls, telephone spam for donations, but non-profits are allowed to, as political groups are allowed to as well.

MK Adi Kol (Yesh Atid), heading the Knesset committee for public inquiries, has raised the issue of this telephone spam and says around the country it has been increasing in its frequency and has become intolerable. Kol says it must be regulated because the private individual does not have the time or resources to go up personally against these big organizations..

Kol goes on to say that the original drafters of the anti-spam law left this aspect open because it did not want to cut this venue off from the politicians during election seasons. But since it has become so abused, she had to submit a law proposal to seal the breach, and if it passes neither politicians or non-profit organizations will be allowed to call people with this type of spam.

reps from various phone companies, who were present at the committee discussion said they support the law proposal.

MK Uri Maklev (UTJ) also said that this phenomenon has gotten too widespread. He himself, so he says, hangs up right when receiving such a call. We do not need to pay others to pray on our behalf. He says he believes some of these organizations are fakes and take advantage of people with sob stories and he too supports this law proposal in order to stop this phenomenon from continuing.

I'll be happy to get rid of both the political phone calls and the charity phone calls. I hope this law passes.

  3. I save the numbers in the memory and don't bother answering. I feel sorry for some of the telemarketers because some are clearly trying to do their job and earn something, but the majority really abuse and don't care, even from real organizations that have harassed me despite civil requests and even angry demands to 'opt-out'. Otherwise, I try not to answer unlisted numbers.
I'm suspicious of anything Adi Kol raises.

  4. Do you really think this will stop the spammers? They ignore the Do-Not-Call lists anyway. However, at least this was a good try.
