Shmitta: a great rundown

Check out Mother in Israel's post describing her trip to a shmitta store and how they deal with shmitta in her area.

I am very impressed with the shmitta store - by us it is the small fruit and veggie section in a local makolet. We have nothing like the size of the carts that she displays...

  2. I assume you're referring to Dil V'Zol, not Chemdat Hateva. Have you seen chemdat hateva's selection (I haven't, which I why I'm asking).

DvZ is OK, although I don't like buying there (even though it's next door) due to some "issues" with the management (threats of violence, theft, physical assault on someone, you know, the usual).

MOI -- in RBS, we have quite a nice selection of Bad"tz E"C (Rafi -- I just saw a sign on the vegetable store on Dolev that they (will?) have Arava stuff, not just imported nochri), and in Bet Shemesh, many stores are HM. Unfortunately, us O"hA/OB"D people tend to be fall in the cracks :)

  3. I have not yet been to chemdat ha'teva...
Aleph has a great selection of fruits and beggies, but I only buy fruit there because the veggies are yevul nochri. Shefa is pathetic on that, I am not sure why. There fruit/veggie department has gotten very small because of shmitta...

I have a lead on some otzar BD veggies from yerushalayim someone might bring me. He claims they are good quality and much cheaper than anything being sold in RBS.. I am still waiting to see them though

  4. Shefa's always been pathetic :)

I think they still have some shishis stuff (potatoes and the like), but that can't last for too long. After that it's probably going to be all yevul nochri (which is why I was so excited to see that the store on dolev says they'll carry some arava stuff).

want to start your own beis din and charge a little a bring some stuff for me from YM? :)
