Interesting Psak: treat your employees well

Haredim10 is reporting that Rab Yehuda Aryeh Dinner in Bnei Braq that employers who make things difficult for their employees "will pay for it", and the employees should leave such places of employment.

Rav Dinner was speaking about the wives of avreichim who work to support their families while the husband learns in kollel. He said he gets a lot of complaints and questions from the women who want to quit their jobs because the boss is miserable to work for - the women come home broken, he says, and it makes them frustrated and bitter in general, even outside of work.

Rav Dinner said that working in such a workplace for a miserable boss is not considered normal hishtadlus, and the boss should be fired. I guess assuming the boss wont be fired, the employee should leave such a job.

Rav Dinner quotes the Chazon Ish that a miserable boss is violating the prohibition of not troubling the Jewish slave, the eved ivri, with backbreaking work. Additionally it is a breach of bein adam lchaveiro. They suffer enough having to go out to work to support the family with mesirut nefesh, but then to also treat them horribly and make their lives bitter? These women should be respected and should be treated well.

Unfortunately it happens. Some bosses are miserable people and difficult to work for. Obviously bosses need and want to make sure the work gets done, but some people are just difficult to work. Some employees are also difficult to handle. Halevai all workplaces should be happy places and good places to work with good bosses who know how to get the work done without abusing the employees. I dont think there is anything unique to the Haredi community in this and Rabbi Dinner was probably just talking about the questions and scenarios he gets asked about which are from the Haredi community.
