The sins of the fathers on the sons

Rav Elyashiv recently declared that the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews run by Rabi Eckstein of Chicago is a problematic organization because of the Christian influence and therefore Jews, haredi organizations, should not accept donations from this Fellowship.

Rabbi Eckstein's son has been learning in a yeshiva in Jerusalem and has become close to Rav Chaim Kanievsky (son in law of Rav Elyashiv). Young Epstein just got married, and Rav Kanievsky told his grandson to arrange a sheva brachos dinner in his house. Rav Kanievsky was the guest of honor.

When it was suggested that it would be wrong to participate because of the recent statement by Rav Elyashiv and that his appearance would look like he is giving his approval, Rav Kanievsky refused to change his mind. Rav Kanievsky said he does not know the father, but the son who got married is somebody worth going out of the way for and he participated in the sheva brachos. (source: Bechadrei)

The father might be "hands off", but the son doesn't have to suffer because of it...

  1. I thought you were from Chicago- you should know better. I know Rabbi Eckstein, and the story is simply untrue. He doesn't have any sons.

  3. It is now being reported on the Haredim website ( http://www.haredim.co.il/ViewArticle.aspx?catID=1&itmID=4809 ) and there it says the chosson is Rabbi Eckstein's nephew, and his father also is part of the IFCJ staff...

  6. Is there really such a chosson?
If so, whoever his father is, the guy must be pretty special to rate such treatment from Rav Chaiim.
