HOTD: Sarit Hadad and Shabbos
Sarit Hadad: Yes to Shabbos, No to the Festigal

Sarit Hadad, a traditional Sefardic Jew and popular singer and entertainer, canceled a gig when she realized that to perform in the Festigal she would be required to perform on Shabbos.
Hadad is not religious, but will not work on Shabbos.
Hadad's cancellation means she is giving up a million shekel contract. To honor the Shabbos. And she might lose out on other opportunities because of it as well, so it might add up to more money. Nobody forced or pressured her to back out - she did it all on her own.
Not only is it a kiddush hashem that she shows people what is important to her, and that her Judaism is important to her, but perhaps by her actions others will follow in her footsteps.
Maybe people will see that working on Shabbos is not a necessity. Others will rethink their own position on Shabbos. Maybe some of the youth that will not see her at the Festigal will think about it and be impressed. If someone the likes of Sarit Hadad can give up a job worth a million shekel just because it is on Shabbos...

ReplyDeleteGoggle and watch her videos, she is one amazing performer. Her shows in Israel and in Caeseare are fully booked in advance, with a night to remember. She is one of NINE siblings, comes from a traditional home where observance is important to her.
ReplyDeleteWhat makes all the difference to me, is that she did this on her own. That sends a much stronger message than if she canceled because of some threat or ban, etc.
ReplyDeleteHer family came from Dagestan. She is Mizrachi, not Sephardic, I think.
