Rav Shlomo Zalman zt"l on Fallen Soldiers
A story is told about Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach zt"l.
The story goes, as told by his regular driver:
Rav Shlomo Zalman would often ask him to drive him home from yeshiva via the route passing Har Herzl. He asked him to do so so that he would be able to daven while in transit by Har Herzl. Rav Shlomo Zalman added at times that he did not understand why people travel far north to the Galil or even to chutz la'aretz to daven by graves of tzadikim when right here in Jerusalem we have a mountain full of graves of tzadikim.

Hey Rafi, it looks like Rav Spector reads your blog when preparing his drashas!!!
ReplyDeleteyes, I noticed! I also noticed Rav Metzger does.. A couple of times he has taken on a cause or said something shortly after I posted the same thing.
ReplyDeleteAllow me to be skeptical of this story. Where has this secret information about RSZ been hiding out all these years?
ReplyDeleteWhen a hot story comes out 15 years after someone is dead - we all need to wonder why we have not heard about it all these years.
this story is not new. I have heard it before. I was just recently reminded of it.
ReplyDeleteAs well, Cross Currents has quoted a slightly different version of the same story, quoting Rav Lau from one of his books.
but you can be skeptical of any story you hear and it wont bother me. Many gedolim stories are made up, quotes he never said, etc. Did this story really happen? I have no idea.
