RamatCa"l Gaby Ashkenazy at the Kotel

Hamodia ran an article, with a picture, about how Gaby Ashkenazy - the IDF Chief of Staff - went to the kotel this week. He went to daven and say thanks to Hashem for the miracles they experienced during the recent Gaza War, and for the success. He also held a se'udas Hoayah with the Rabbi of the kotel, Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz.

Whoever says the Israeli army is purely "kochi v'otzem yadi" and therefore bad, does not know what they are talking about.

UPDATE: Searching for a link, I found this article with the same picture on Arutz 7 Hebrew...

  1. Great story- do you have a link?

  2. The article with the picture was in the Hamodia physical newspaper. I later also saw it, with no pic, in the Mishpacha newspaper.

I will look for a link.

  3. not that I am a fan of Ashkenazi's no nonsense approach (He scolded my friend for having his shirt untucked while smoking a cig in front of Beit HaHayil Jerusalem), but he did get the IDF to once again show it can open a can of whoop ass. The Nahal Heredi unit now is now 100% Kosher for heredim to enter - but where are they? You get the top kosher food, the ability to daven 3 prayers unchallenged - so what's the problem?

  4. The discipline that has soldiers being reprimanded for things like uniform violations, is exactly what the army needed. Military discipline extends to every aspect of a soldier's day. As a 16 year US Army vet (Lieutenant Colonel) and combat veteran, I can tell you that I am often shocked at the lackadaisical attitude of Israeli soldiers towards their appearance and towards their equipment. In an army that does not have the budget of the American armed forces, this is even more important. Good for the General for cracking down. It showed in the soldiers' performance this past Jan/Feb.

  5. B"H

Remember what happened when Gen. Elazar Stern visited the Kotel?

He received a few choice words from a Hacham and a few projectiles which "accidentally" landed on his person.

    Midah keneged Midah....
