a conviction

While a conviction in cases of sexual abuse is not always easy to come by, and it seems that more often than not there is not enough evidence to get the conviction, this time it worked. Maybe because the abused was a 16 year old kid and not a young kid - the 16 year old probably was able to supply evidence a little kid could not.

NY Post reports..

A Brooklyn jury today convicted an orthodox rabbi of repeatedly sexually abusing a 16-year-old classmate of his son.

The panel of 10 women and two men deliberated less than half a day before finding the rabbi, Baruch Lebovits, 58, guilty of eight counts of sexual abuse.

The jury acquitted him of two counts.

"Justice was served," said the father of the abused boy, whose name is being withheld by The Post.

The teen said the rabbi lured him into his car by offering to let him drive, then unzipped his fly and performed oral sex on him.

Lebovits had no reaction as the jury forewoman read the verdict, but sniffles and gasps were heard from the roughly 30 assembled friends and relatives.

Justice Patricia DiMango ordered the rabbi remanded pending sentence. He faces up to 32 years behind bars.

"I understand that there are a significant number of Jewish holidays coming up, and I am sorry," she said.

  1. A great day for justice!

So sad that our community won't allow these cases to go to the proper authorities and give a chance for justice for the victims.

  2. A teenage girl has filed a $50 million lawsuit against a New York billionaire, saying he sexually abused her when she was 14.

Louis Kestenbaum"s attorney says the allegations are false and motivated by money. Kestenbaum is also the CEO of Fortis properties and the ODA a goverment funded organisation in the williamsburg section of Brooklyn NY

The girl, now 17, claims Louis Kestenbaum invited her to his Florida mansion in 2005 to perform a massage for $300. The lawsuit, filed in federal court, claims he demanded she remove her clothes, then sexually assaulted her.

The girl, her father and stepmother are seeking more than $50 million.

JOEL KESTENBAUM a son of Louis Kestenbaum said " The family is in shock " but had no comments when asked.

  3. It's about time they get prosecuted and put away, holiday, no holiday, family gasps and sighs; he belongs off the streets!

  4. yeah if I were prosecuted for such things (just goes to show you I don't understand the psychology) I'd be embarrassed to bring 30 friends and family to the court case
