Quote of the Day
I bless any candidate who will stand against me, as long as the rules of proper behavior, truth and justice are followed. I believe there will still be many surprises along the way, including announcements of support for me from broad groups of residents. I also bless the unity, but it distresses me that they have excluded a woman from being mayor, which is something everyone hoped for..
-- Mayor of Bet Shemesh Moshe Abutbol, upon hearing the announcement by Minister Naftali Bennet about closing a deal to stop supporting Aliza Bloch for mayor of Bet Shemesh and support Eli Cohen instead.

If it distresses him so much that there will be no woman running for mayor, he should convince his party Shas to run a woman candidate for mayor in his place!
ReplyDeleteCan you clarify something (for those of us that don't live in BS)? Was Bloch was the frontrunner for the Bayit Yehudi and Eli Cohen transplanted into the party?
ReplyDeleteBloch was number 1 on the local Bayait Yehudi party list and was their candidate for mayor. She also had the support of other parties, politicians, public figures, and people.
DeleteEli Cohen was candidate for mayor running as head of an independent party.
Bayit Yehudi saw they were losing, even before the poll began, and they decided instead of losing the sekker they preferred to make a deal with Cohen. The deal did not get through before the sekker, so the sekker began. after the 1st day of the sekker they finished the deal.
It seems a recurring issue in two other campaigns that the national party has decided who will run in the local elections. 'Something new is happening'.
DeleteMight I ask your opinion on having your candidate run under the BY banner? You were earlier quite positive about Eli, but the BY brand is quite problematic.
I dont know at this point what BY's involvement iso or will be. It was clear from the start that had Eli won the sekker BY (and all the other parties) would have ended up supporting him - so this is not a surprise. I do hope they will not be too involved.
DeleteThere is also going to be some party merger - running a joint list. I dont yet know how that will work, but I can foresee myself supporting Eli for mayor but not voting his party list - if BY involvement will be too strong.
It's pretty funny that the candidate from a party that b'shita (per the view of Rave Ovadia Yosef that a woman should not be in a leadership position) does not have women candidates is bemoaning the fact that a woman withdrew from the race.
ReplyDeletethis maneuver masriach should wipe away any illusion that maybe our Savior, Lord Cohen is anything but DV2.
ReplyDeleteHe is party to the turning of BLoch into a tramp like a video vamp (apologies to Joe Elliot).
did it to her - will do it to us residents of BS if it suits his ambitions.
Cohen was a passive player in this maneuver. He was winning the sekker (let's assume), and BY came to him to avoid defeat and conceded defeat. then they worked out the deal.

ReplyDeleteBet Shemesh is not the only city where molesters run rampant
molesters dont run rampant in bet Shemesh. I dont know about what happens in Lakewood, but I doubt they run rampant there either. Surely there is a problem, and hopefully it will be dealt with.
